Good Digs for The Good Wife

What I love about television set designs is how they capture a characters life and personality so well.  The whole scene tells a story about the person living in that space and is so thoughtfully designed.  You may not remember that I featured Modern Family's set awhile back when I first started blogging, however it is one of my most popular posts to date.  I thought I would give you a glimpse into another stunning set that I can't take my eyes off of.  It is the one from Alicia Florrick's Chicago Apartment in The Good Wife.  I really love the whole decor, it is a great mix of modern and traditional styles, which speak to me!

Kitchen

The kitchen is my favorite room in the set.  I can't get enough of those cabinets and the shelves over the windows.  The set designer actually had the cabinets built on site by the shows on set contractors.  Look how well this kitchen is staged to make it look lived in.  While there are some quirks, like dishwasher on the opposite wall from the sink and fridge bumped right up next to the counter, when the camera is closed in on the space it seems to flow nicely.  I guess it is the cameras playing tricks on us!

Living Room

Can't get enough of these gorgeous built-in bookshelves!  What shocked me the most when I pulled up the set photos was how much square footage was actually in these rooms.  If you watch this show it seems like a pretty small apartment with one room flowing into the next.  You can really tell this from this last photo, doesn't that living room look a ton smaller on film?!

Gotta love this chair!  Do you spy those Anthropology knobs on the vanity that I have been dying to have in my guest bedroom?

Dining Room

This is my second favorite room.  The eggplant wall color against all of the warm wood furniture makes this dining room very intimate and sophisticated.

The show is a great show, but I think the amazing sets add to my love of The Good Wife.  What do you think?  For me I could move right in, put up some family photos and call it a day.

My Productive Weekend

We worked on the side yard all day Saturday and part of Sunday, and would you believe me if I told you it looks like we did absolutely nothing?! We set the posts for the fence that will be towards the front of the house and built all of the fence panels and gate. However, because the posts have to set in the concrete we weren't able to get the panels onto the posts this weekend. Hopefully they'll be able to just be placed up quickly next weekend and we can work on the fence at the back of the house :)

While we wait for concrete to dry (and any other down time that I have) I was browsing Houzz. I got their app last month, and I am WAY more addicted than I was before! While browsing around I came across this family room that I haven't taken my eyes off this whole week.

Isn't it so warm and inviting?! I puffy heart LOVE those built-ins! After staring at this picture for hours I decided to see who designed this room (Elizabeth Gordon), and found so many more gorgeous spaces from the same Hollywood Hills home.

Would you believe it that this is Joel McHale's (The Soup & Community) home? Of course it is, as if he wasn't dreamy enough already!  Apparently I have been living under a rock because it was featured in In Style Magazine, so maybe you would believe me ;).

Weekend Inspiration

Woo, this week has flown by!  I can't believe it is Thursday already, and I am still working on the same project I started at the beginning of the week.  A coffee maker and iron had to be taken to Goodwill, and you know I couldn't leave there without stopping in to see if there was anything I couldn't live without.  Lone behold, I found something!!  Each of these photos inspired the transformation of my secret {sounds more exciting that it really is} project.

Do you spy the common denominator in all of the fabulous rooms?

Inspiration for a Bookshelf Spruce Up

One of my New Year's resolutions was to spruce up our hallway, and the first step is to take care of our bookshelves there.  Since our little man learned to walk we have had to move everything from within his arms reach.  This has left the bottom bookshelf empty!  I've turned to Houzz for some distraction inspiration on where to begin.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you to each and every one of my followers!  It has been a pleasure to meet this great group of people from all over the country world who share the same passion that I do.  The last few months since I started this little blog of mine have been amazing, and I have truly enjoyed getting to know y'all {I'm not a native Texan, but I can pretend}.

This weekend has really put me in the Christmas mood.  We had my husbands annual work party on Friday night, and guess what... it was at the aquarium.  It was pretty cool to walk into the aquarium after hours and have free rein of the place, it was also a little bit creepy.  The lights were dimmed way down, and it felt like we were the only people in the entire place.   I wish I had taken my camera, but it didn't go with my cute dress ;)  Here are a few pictures from other sources that should give you an idea of how cool this place is.

We ate lots of gingerbread men, chocolate macaroons and overall just a ton of food.  Hey, that's what New Years resolutions are for right?!  Then we had the Christmas services at church.  Some of the kids got all dressed up in snow gear and were dancing on stage, VERY CUTE!  Not to mention that I won my very first giveaway!!  What's Up Whimsy was giving away a blog header from House 09, and I am so excited to have won.  Merry Christmas to ME :)

So, look forward to a new look for house of ficek in 2011.  As you all know, starting a blog is a learning process.  It has been so wonderful to get all kinds of help from you fellow bloggers the last few months since I started this little blog of mine.  I am so grateful to each and everyone of you who devote time out of your busy schedules to listen to my rantings.  In a nutshell {told you I am feeling the Christmas spirit}, that is why I have been in the Christmas mood this weekend, and browsing the internet starring at all these gorgeous Christmas decorations.  Here are a few of my favorites  today.
