Good Digs for The Good Wife

What I love about television set designs is how they capture a characters life and personality so well.  The whole scene tells a story about the person living in that space and is so thoughtfully designed.  You may not remember that I featured Modern Family's set awhile back when I first started blogging, however it is one of my most popular posts to date.  I thought I would give you a glimpse into another stunning set that I can't take my eyes off of.  It is the one from Alicia Florrick's Chicago Apartment in The Good Wife.  I really love the whole decor, it is a great mix of modern and traditional styles, which speak to me!

Kitchen

The kitchen is my favorite room in the set.  I can't get enough of those cabinets and the shelves over the windows.  The set designer actually had the cabinets built on site by the shows on set contractors.  Look how well this kitchen is staged to make it look lived in.  While there are some quirks, like dishwasher on the opposite wall from the sink and fridge bumped right up next to the counter, when the camera is closed in on the space it seems to flow nicely.  I guess it is the cameras playing tricks on us!

Living Room

Can't get enough of these gorgeous built-in bookshelves!  What shocked me the most when I pulled up the set photos was how much square footage was actually in these rooms.  If you watch this show it seems like a pretty small apartment with one room flowing into the next.  You can really tell this from this last photo, doesn't that living room look a ton smaller on film?!

Gotta love this chair!  Do you spy those Anthropology knobs on the vanity that I have been dying to have in my guest bedroom?

Dining Room

This is my second favorite room.  The eggplant wall color against all of the warm wood furniture makes this dining room very intimate and sophisticated.

The show is a great show, but I think the amazing sets add to my love of The Good Wife.  What do you think?  For me I could move right in, put up some family photos and call it a day.

My Productive Weekend

We worked on the side yard all day Saturday and part of Sunday, and would you believe me if I told you it looks like we did absolutely nothing?! We set the posts for the fence that will be towards the front of the house and built all of the fence panels and gate. However, because the posts have to set in the concrete we weren't able to get the panels onto the posts this weekend. Hopefully they'll be able to just be placed up quickly next weekend and we can work on the fence at the back of the house :)

While we wait for concrete to dry (and any other down time that I have) I was browsing Houzz. I got their app last month, and I am WAY more addicted than I was before! While browsing around I came across this family room that I haven't taken my eyes off this whole week.

Isn't it so warm and inviting?! I puffy heart LOVE those built-ins! After staring at this picture for hours I decided to see who designed this room (Elizabeth Gordon), and found so many more gorgeous spaces from the same Hollywood Hills home.

Would you believe it that this is Joel McHale's (The Soup & Community) home? Of course it is, as if he wasn't dreamy enough already!  Apparently I have been living under a rock because it was featured in In Style Magazine, so maybe you would believe me ;).

Where the Modern Family Lives

ABC's Modern Family has to be one of my favorite TV shows.  It stereotypes modern families in a way most of us can relate to, and laugh about.  However, I have to admit I also L  O  V  E   love this show because of the great set designs by Production Designer Richard Berg who was recently interviewed by LA Times.  Why I find television shows more inspirational for design than product websites is the accumulated feel from not having everything come from one source.

My favorite has to be the Dunphy home.  Some might say it is "Pottery Barn" or "Catalog", but I call it classic and comfy.

"We couldn't do a show called 'Modern Family' if we didn't see the kitchen as part of the dining and family room in one flowing space." series creator Steve Levitan says.
(ABC)

The stairway is in every shot of Claire and Phil being "interviewed", and stands out with the serene blue walls and the perfectly hung photographs.

This is a great shot of the dining room and kitchen, but if you notice the chairs are different from the ones you can see from the shot of the family room.  I much prefer the others to these, the rug is different too.
